Biodiesel - From Feedstock to Fuel

Brimrose AOTF-NIR spectrometers are excellent tools for measurement of fuel properties. Good results for gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and gas-oil as well as BTX components in fuels in vapor analyzers can be used in process in many areas of the refinery. Potential applications include Free Fatty Acids (FFA’s), Cloud Point, Moisture Content, Methanol and Ester Content, Incoming Oil Quality, etc.

SAVE ENERGY, TIME, AND MONEY
Brimrose spectrometers interface directly with your production process to provide In-line, non-destructive measurements. This means fewer reprocessed materials, less time spent on routine lab work, and a lower operating cost.

BIODIESEL QUALIFICATION
Qualification of Biodiesel is very important to both manufacturers and consumers. Some of the important components to look at include moisture, glycerides (mono, di, tri), and Fatty Acid Methyl Esters (FAME). It is essential to measure these components to ensure that the finished product is of the highest quality.

FAST AND SIMULTANEOUS RESULTS
Typically, most measurements are taken in the lab. A sample has to be taken from the line, prepared, and analyzed, sometimes being shipped to a third-party lab if one is not on site. Using traditional methods cost time and money and can result in unnecessary waste. Brimrose spectrometers provide extremely fast measurements for all of your analytes simultaneously, providing better data trends for your refining process.

A BETTER METHOD

AOTF-NIR spectroscopy is a non-destructive test method for rapidly determining biodiesel composition. The technique has been proven to reduce waste, lower cost, and ensure quality. Once implemented in-line, measurements are generated in seconds. Brimrose AOTF-NIR spectrometers are extremely rugged having been designed for harsh plant environments.

A PROVEN BENEFIT

Successful implementation of a Brimrose Luminar AOTF-NIR spectrometer has an attractive ROI because of a variety of proven benefits:

  • Measurements are taken in line with no sample preparation

  • Make real-time changes to your process if analysis indicates the product is out of specification

  • Minimize re-work and scrap

  • Samples are not destroyed during analysis

  • Reduce man hours spent on routine lab work

  • Save energy from errors in production
