Brimrose designs and builds ruggedized AOTF‑NIR Spectrometers as Process Analytical Technology (PAT) tools, delivering fast‑responding analysis for a wide range of industrial process applications. Our systems are designed to meet individual customer requirements and environmental constraints, helping improve production efficiency, product quality, and process consistency. We specialize in at‑line, in‑line, and multi‑purpose Near‑Infrared (NIR) spectrometers that are adaptable and flexible to support evolving operational needs.

Additional details on available NIR spectrometer models are provided in the product section.

Core Principles of Near‑Infrared Technology

What NIR Technology Measures

Near‑infrared spectroscopy operates in the 700–2500 nm region, capturing broad molecular absorption patterns that rapidly measure chemical and physical properties of materials without damaging the sample. Because NIR is rapid and non‑destructive, it has become a powerful tool for quality assurance, material identification, and process monitoring.

What Accurate NIR Analysis Requires

Because these signals are weak, overlapping, and sensitive to drift, accurate NIR analysis requires stable wavelength control to prevent spectral drift, consistent spectral output for reliable measurements, and robust chemometric models built through data collection, data processing, calibration, and prediction.

Instrument Design Variations

NIR spectrometers come in different designs—FT‑NIR, grating, diode‑array, and filter‑based. These designs differ in:

  • stability

  • measurement speed

  • long‑term repeatability

These variations lead to performance differences that affect how well each instrument supports real‑world NIR applications.

AOTF‑NIR Technology

Our AOTF‑NIR spectrometers use an acousto‑optic tunable filter—the core device underlying AOTF technology—to select wavelengths rapidly and without moving parts, enabling fast and precise wavelength control across the NIR range. Its solid‑state design delivers stable, drift‑resistant spectra with continuous reference correction for consistent long‑term performance. Compared with FT‑NIR, grating, diode‑array, and filter‑based NIR systems, AOTF‑NIR offers faster tuning, higher repeatability, and stronger resistance to vibration and temperature changes—ideal for quality assurance and process monitoring.

Core Performance Characteristics

AOTF‑NIR spectrometers deliver stable, reliable measurements based on several key performance characteristics.

  • Solid State – no moving parts, therefore it is immune to ambient vibration

  • Faster up to 10 measurements / second and capable to scan up to 16,000 wavelengths per second, therefore can get up to 30 scans per second across the whole wavelength range (1100-2300 nm)

  • Customized for Purpose (ATEX / UL / IPxx)

  • Sensitive – delivers higher spectral resolution with an excellent signal‑to‑noise ratio

  • Immune to Ambient Light – no need to block ambient light from the sample

  • Real-Time Dual Beam Reference – no drifting, excellent wavelength repeatability, no need to recalibrate the device

Each Brimrose standard AOTF‑NIR Spectrometer includes a set of configuration options, with several items also serving as starting points for deeper customization. These options support different installation needs, operating setups, and optical requirements across laboratory, process, and field environments.

Standard spectrometers include Battery Ready design, Lab Stand, Trigger, Mounting Plate, and Communication Interfaces.
