AO DEVICES

Turning ideas into reality began with an idea for GHz acousto-optic devices in the early 1980's. Brimrose developed the technique to make it happen. And to this day, we are the only AO company to offer high frequency devices in custom-built small packages.

AOTF Technology

Our Legacy in Acousto‑Optic Innovation

An Acousto‑Optic Tunable Filter (AOTF) is a solid‑state acousto‑optic device that uses radio‑frequency (RF) acoustic waves inside a crystal to separate a single wavelength of light from a broadband or multi‑color source. Because the selected wavelength is determined entirely by the applied RF frequency—without any moving parts—the device provides fast, precise, and geometry‑independent tuning. This enables rapid scanning, wide spectral coverage, and high optical throughput, making AOTF technology ideal for NIR spectroscopy, hyperspectral imaging, and real‑time process‑control applications. This same AOTF technology also forms the foundation of our AOTF‑NIR spectrometers, which apply these advantages to advanced NIR measurement systems.
