Food and Dairy Applications
Brimrose provides rugged Near Infrared Spectrometers customized for the Food Industry to measure food products and ingredients in Real Time in the Process line. Measurements are made "as is" while the product is being made in manufacturing or moving through the production line with no sample preparation required.
With real time measurements and feedback loop on the line, specs can be met with tight tolerances to optimize yields, as opposed to waiting for the results from the Wet Chemistry or QA/QC lab well after the final product (in or out of spec) is made. This results in higher yields, less re-work and less scrap. Following are some examples of the food and dairy applications:
Monitoring the Moisture Content in Bread Crumbs
Brimrose spectrometers were used to determine the level of moisture in bread crumbs. Spectral data were collected from 60 samples, equally taken from three different types of bread crumb provided by a large food processing company. Measurement of Nitrogen, Potassium and Phosphor in Dry Olive Leaves
The Brimrose Luminar 5030 was used in coordination with an agricultural research center in Israel. Calibrations were made for the analysis of nitrogen, potassium and phosphor in dried olive leaves. The speed of AOTF-NIR and its implementation make it possible to analyze large numbers of sample with marginal effort. Online Measuring Moisture Content in Pepper Kernels
The picture shows a Brimrose AOTF-NIR Luminar 4030 Free Space spectrometer being used to scan spectral data of moisture content in pepper kernels ON-LINE at a customer facility. The instrument was securely mounted to the outflow funnel of the dryer bed in order to measure moisture after the drying process. This 4030 unit features a Vortex Cooler with Heat Exchanger to efficiently cool the unit in high-heat surroundings given off by the dryer bed. This unit also features wireless communication and battery operation for convenience.
