Qualitative Analysis of Hexanol and THF in Hexanes Using AOTF-NIR Technology

A Brimrose AOTF-NIR Handheld Spectrometer was used in conjunction with a mock tranflectance cuvette to study hexanol and THF contamination in hexane. A pattern recognition algorithm was utilized to look for clustering between samples. The results of this study shows that the spectral data, obtained with a Brimrose AOTF-NIR Spectrometer, for hexane is unique. The samples with contaminants were separated from pure hexane. This study demonstrates the feasibility of a qualitative method of analysis of low levels of contaminants in hexane.
