Rapid Identification of Polymer Waste
For Recycling Using AOTF-NIR
Spectroscopy
Abstract:
A Brimrose Free Space spectrometer
was used to scan spectral data of
soft back and yarn samples of Nylon
6,6; Nylon 6 polypropylene; and
polyethylene. Regression models were
constructed by assigning arbitrary
numeral values for each type of
sample. One model was able to
separate the nylons from the
polypropylene and polyethylene and
another model was able to separate
the 2 types of nylons. The results
clearly showed that the Brimrose
spectrometer is able to distinguish
these types of polymers using
spectral data and calibration
models.
