The Measurement of Density and Melt
Index in Low Density Polyethylene Using
AOTF-NIR Spectroscopy
Abstract:
A Brimrose Free Space spectrometer
with a rotating cup accessory was
used to collect spectral data on
samples of low density polyethylene
with known values of melt index and
density. The regression models
showed excellent correlation between
the spectral data and the reference
values. The regression coefficients
confirmed that the model took the
relevant information from wavelength
ranges where polymers absorb.
